Father O'Malley's Picks of the Week

Every week, the former team chaplain of NFL Europe’s Vatican City Crusaders, will weigh in about college football across the country. As a man of the cloth and a man of the pigskin, Father Peter O’Malley knows a thing or two about life and football. Each Friday Father O’Malley will post his five picks of the week. The following Monday Father O’Malley will post the results and outcomes to the five games he picked.
Father O’Malley’s 2009-2010 Bowl Mania
Father Peter O’Malley is extremely excited and thrilled to share his picks for this season’s bowl games. This season was filled with twists and turns that many of us never saw coming. Father O’Malley is optimistic that his picks will be dead on accurate; at least he hopes so… considering he put his parish up as collateral with one of the sports books in Vegas! Father O’Malley would like to thank the loyal readers who came back week after week to read his drunken rampages and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a better 2010 for the Fighting Irish… Hell they can’t get any worse! Oh wait…they are Notre Dame.
Father O'Malley's Bowl Picks
The New Mexico Bowl
Albuquerque, NM – 12/19/09, 4:30PM Kickoff
Fresno State vs. Wyoming
Father O says: The bowl so crappy they couldn’t get a corporate sponsor. Well at least there is nothing like starting the bowl season with two legendary powerhouses like Fresno State and Wyoming! Honestly does anybody care about this game? It’s in the middle of the freaking desert… what the hell does the winning team get, a bag of sand? Fresno State wins, 21-13.
The St. Petersburg Bowl Presented by Beef O’ Brady’s
St. Petersburg, FL – 12/19/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Central Florida vs. Rutgers
Father O says: I don’t know if these bowl committees think it’s cute for football games to be played in baseball stadiums, or what but they could have picked a better location than St. Petersburg, FL. What do you think their pitch line to the NCAA was, “Come to St. Pete, the land of old people, rampant crime and we also have a baseball stadium that you can play a football game in! The stadium really blends in well with its surroundings; we’re going for the worn down warehouse look?” Rutgers runs over Central Florida, 31-14.
The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
New Orleans, LA – 12/20/09, 8:30PM Kickoff
Southern Miss vs. Middle Tennessee State
Father O says: I didn’t know they had bowl games for Division 2 teams?? Southern Miss wins in a 4 OT shootout, 15-12.
The MAACO Las Vegas Bowl
Las Vegas, NV – 12/22/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Oregon State vs. BYU
Father O says: Now we finally have a real game here, #18 Oregon State vs. #14 BYU! The only problem is, who the hell was the genius that invited a bunch of Mormons to Las Vegas. No disrespect, but you invited the official university of the Mormon religion to play a bowl game in SIN CITY?!? Maybe I am the only one that sees that as a complete waste of drunken, prostitute seeking, gambling fun… you could have at least invited Notre Dame, that way they would have actually accepted a bowl game! BYU wins because they won’t be drunk, high or have recently contracted an STD, 35-14.
The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
San Diego, CA – 12/23/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Utah vs. California
Father O says: Well at least they have a sponsor…Since Cal will be without Javid Best, they don’t have a chance. Utah wins, 17-10.
The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Honolulu, HI – 12/24/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Nevada vs. Southern Methodist
Father O says: Oh splendid memories from a year ago, when then, employed, slightly slimmer Charlie Weis got his only bowl win in his 5 years at Notre Dame…Nevada wins, 16-12 just because they let Notre Dame win this year.
The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl
Detroit, MI – 12/26/09, 1:00PM Kickoff
Marshall vs. Ohio
Father O says: You know Detroit is hurting when they drop the name Motor City Bowl and get a $5 a pizza joint to be the sponsor of their bowl game! Marshall and Ohio in a bowl game, that doesn’t make me think of Pizza, Pizza it makes me think Shitty, Shitty. Ohio wins, 14-13.
The Meineke Car Care Bowl
Charlotte, NC – 12/26/09, 4:30PM Kickoff
Pittsburgh vs. North Carolina
Father O says: Well, it won’t be snowing in Charlotte, so Pittsburgh doesn’t have a chance to blow a 30 point lead and lose another game… North Carolina wins 6-3.
The Emerald Bowl
San Francisco, CA – 12/26/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Boston College vs. USC
Father O says: USC beats the “Watered down” Catholics, 24-10.
The Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Nashville, TN – 12/27/09, 8:30PM Kickoff
Kentucky vs. Clemson
Father O says: Nothing like watching a cat fight in Nashville with some sweet Tennessee nectar (Jack Daniels). I think Clemson will wear out Kentucky and beat them up pretty bad. Clemson wins, 26-7.
The Advocare V100 Independence Bowl
Shreveport, LA – 12/28/09, 5:00PM Kickoff
Texas A&M vs. Georgia
Father O says: “Come drive to Shreveport, yes drive, cause we don’t have an airport and play a bowl game in the middle of nowhere. It’s gonna be fun for the whole family. We have farms, a drive through beer barn and a Wal-Mart! It’s just like Disney World!” Georgia wins or Rict gets the axe! Georgia, 23-17.
The Eagle Bank Bowl
Washington D.C. – 12/29/09, 4:30PM Kickoff
UCLA vs. Temple
Father O says: The only reason UCLA made this game is because Army lost and wasn’t bowl eligible. If Temple loses, they should disband their football team and save the money. Temple wins, 14-3.
The Champs Sports Bowl
Orlando, FL – 12/29/09, 8:00PM Kickoff
Miami vs. Wisconsin
Father O says: After watching “The U” on ESPN 30 in 30, I hope Miami brings the swagger back against Wisconsin! Miami then gets placed on probation again and the cycle repeats itself. Miami wins, 21-13.
The Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl
Boise, ID – 12/30/09, 4:30PM Kickoff
Bowling Green vs. Idaho
Father O says: Apparently the same dumb ass who sent BYU to Las Vegas also decided to have a bowl game in the mountains of Idaho, during December. Talk about your average government employee! Idaho wins, 18-10.
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
San Diego, CA – 12/30/09, 8:00 PM Kickoff
Arizona vs. Nebraska
Father O says: Suh is still pissed he got robbed for the Heisman, hence bad news for Arizona. Suh will rack up 12 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and 2 decapitations in a blood bath of Arizona. Nebraska wins a close one cause their offense sucks. Nebraska wins, 3-0.
The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl
Fort Worth, TX – 12/31/09, 12:00PM Kickoff
Houston vs. Air Force
Father O says: Case Keenum throws for 783 yards in the close victory over Air Force. Houston wins 68-67.
The Brut Sun Bowl
El Paso, TX – 12/31/09, 2:00PM Kickoff
Oklahoma vs. Stanford
Father O says: Stanford out-smarts, out-hits and out-plays Big Game Bob, who will sooner or later be looking for another job! Stanford wins, 27-17.
The Texas Bowl
Houston, TX – 12/31/09, 3:30PM Kickoff
Navy vs. Missouri
Father O says: Navy beats Mizzou, beause Mizzou is horrible. Navy wins, 24-7.
The Insight Bowl
Tempe, AZ – 12/31/09, 6:00PM Kickoff
Minnesota vs. Iowa State
Father O says: Let me offer you some INSIGHT Iowa State, you don’t stand a chance in hell, to win this game! Minnesota wins, 35-3.
The Chick-fil-A Bowl
Atlanta, GA – 12/31/09, 7:30PM Kickoff
Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech
Father O says: Virginia Tech doesn’t seem to do well in games that are played in Atlanta. They started their season losing in Atlanta, and they are going to end their season that way! Tennessee voluntarily beats the hell out of VT, 23-10.
The Outback Bowl
Tampa, FL – 1/1/10, 11:00AM Kickoff
Northwestern vs. Auburn
Father O says: The last time Northwestern was in a bowl game, Bill Clinton was “NOT” having relations with Monica Lewinski. Northwestern got lucky this year, several times, and their luck is about to run out. Auburn wins, 35-13.
The Capital One Bowl
Orlando, FL – 1/1/10, 1:00PM Kickoff
Penn State vs. LSU
Father O says: LSU wins before Joe Pa even realizes they are playing a football game. At least the game is in Florida… They can just leave Joe Pa there indefinitely. LSU wins, 28-10.
The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, FL – 1/1/10, 1:00PM Kickoff
West Virginia vs. Florida State
Father O says: West Virginia throws the game so Bobby Bowden goes out as the Criminole head coach on a winning note. FSU wins 7-6.
The Rose Bowl Presented by Citi
Pasadena, CA – 1/1/10, 4:30PM Kickoff
Oregon vs. Ohio State
Father O says: After OSU gets done with Oregon they’ll think that their crap smells like roses again! OSU is going to win the Rose Bowl and then here come the National Title talks again, blah, blah, blah. Ohio State wins 24-21.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl
New Orleans, LA – 1/1/10, 8:30PM Kickoff

The International Bowl
Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 1/2/10, 12:00PM
Northern Illinois vs. South Florida
Father O says: Baring from Jim Leavitt choking and punching any of his players during half time, this shouldn’t be a very exciting game. Northern Illinois WILL STOMP USF in Toronto. All the “experts” are saying NIU doesn’t stand a chance against this Big East team, bull crap! USF is on their traditional late season down-ward spiral. They don’t stand a chance… NIU beats USF, 23-16.
The AT&T Cotton Bowl
Arlington, TX – 1/2/10, 2:00PM Kickoff
Oklahoma State vs. Ole Miss
Father O says: OOOOOOOOOO-KLAHOMA Sate wins the game! OK State wins, 21-18.
The PappaJohns.com Bowl
Birmingham, AL – 1/2/10, 2:00PM Kickoff
South Carolina vs. UCONN
Father O says: I always thought Pappa Johns was a pizza place not a damn website. The Cocks win this one, 14-3.
The AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Memphis, TN – 1/2/10, 5:30PM Kickoff
Arkansas vs. East Carolina
Father O says: Lou Holtz son is coaching ECU, and damn it, if a Holtz is coaching, I can’t bet against him! ECU wins 21-18.
The Valero Alamo Bowl
San Antonio, TX – 1/2/10, 9:00PM Kickoff

Father O says: Who cares?…Michigan State 3-2.
The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Glendale, AZ – 1/4/10, 8:00PM Kickoff
Boise State vs. TCU
Father O says: The battle of the National Title rejects. Both of these teams went undefeated and were robbed out of a chance to play in the National Title game! Boo Freakin’ Hoo, Waaaaahhhh. It’s because it’s Boise State and TCU. If Army went undefeated, would they go to a national title? NO. If Western Kentucky or Florida Atlantic went undefeated, would they go to the national title? NO! Play in a real conference and then you can complain! TCU wins, 21-17.
The FedEX Orange Bowl
Miami, FL – 1/5/10, 8:00PM Kickoff
Iowa vs. Georgia Tech
Father O says: Iowa is going to put the Wreck on Tech! Georgia Tech clearly doesn’t belong in this game, and Iowa is going to prove that point. Iowa wins, 31-14.
The GMAC Bowl
Mobile, AL – 1/6/10, 7:00PM Kickoff
Central Michigan vs. Troy
