Turns out the story behind Georgia basketball's academic scandal really will come out in the wash.
A Tampa company is selling T-shirts mocking the Bulldogs' embarrassing classroom affair with former assistant coach and instructor Jim Harrick Jr.
"DUMBDOGS Basketball, Athens, Georgia" the front of the shirt proclaims. On the back is a likeness of a final exam with six bunny questions, several of which were on the actual test given by Harrick Jr. in his "Coaching Principals [sic] and Strategies of Basketball" course in the fall 2001 semester.
Like: "How many points does a 3-point field goal account for in a basketball game?"
Every student in the class got an "A," including the three scholarship players who skipped the final, prompting an NCAA investigation. The school is awaiting word from the NCAA on penalties in addition to those that were self-imposed.
The $19 shirt has proved a hit. They're sold out for the moment at Sports Fan-Attic in Permeter Mall, and going fast at the Chop to The Top Shop in CNN center.
"Tech fans can't pass it up," said Wayne Curtiss, owner of Smack Apparel, which has built a reputation on sports novelty shirts. "It would be a bigger seller if it was Georgia football, but I just couldn't pass it up."
Georgia officials can.
"Anybody associated with [Georgia] knows the Harrick Jr. test was not representative of a class at the university, or even our coaching courses, "spokesman Tom Jackson said. "The reaction we've gotten nationally is it's an indictment of the departed coaches and not the university."
And Curtiss can't be accused of glass-housing. The Florida State graduate commemorated former Seminole star Peter Warrick's 1999 department store theft plea with a shirt that shouted, "Heistman Trophy."
